LG Display has announced that the industry’s first Tandem OLED panel for laptops has entered mass production. The 13-inch panel is expected to appear in a Dell laptop for the first time. Let’s remember that LG Display’s Tandem OLED panel uses two layers of red, green and blue (RGB) organic light-emitting diodes, as opposed to one layer in conventional OLED panels.
Tandem OLED panels are more expensive to manufacture, but provide superior performance compared to conventional OLED displays, which in turn are significantly superior to LCD panels used in laptops today in most applications.

LG Display’s Tandem OLED panel measures 13 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 2880 x 1800. The panel provides 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. According to LG Display, despite its multi-layer structure, the display is 40% thinner and 28% lighter than a typical OLED laptop screen. In addition, the panel supports touch input and navigation.
Last month, Korean newspaper The Elect reported that LG Display will be supplying a Tandem OLED display for Dell laptops, specifically the XPS13 model. This will be the first time a Tandem OLED display is used in a laptop. LG Display is expected to supply Dell with around 100,000 Tandem OLED panels in its first batch. With the release of the iPad Pro M4, Apple introduced the first tablet with a Tandem OLED screen – these displays are made by both LG Display and Samsung Display. But for the first time, the Tandem OLED panel was used in a car multimedia system in 2019.
