We’ve become accustomed to using Bluetooth to wirelessly stream music from our mobile devices to headphones or a wireless speaker. That could change, at least on a small scale, with the introduction of Lotoo LTTP , which is said to be designed specifically for streaming high-resolution audio (remember, Bluetooth is a universal wireless data transfer interface).
Lotoo is a brand of Beijing Infomedia Electronic Technology Co., which claims to be the largest supplier of field recording devices and broadcast automation systems in Asia. The company was present at the High End 2024 exhibition in Munich, where, among other things, it presented its development – the wireless interface LTTP . This abbreviation stands for “Lotoo Teleportation Protocol”. According to Lotoo, unlike Bluetooth, LTTP is specially designed for wireless transmission of audio signals without loss while maintaining high resolution.
According to the developers, LTTP transmission technology works with adaptive bandwidth and very precise clock control, making this technology compatible with all types of audio streams. According to Lotoo, the transmitter adapter also makes it compatible with all software and hardware platforms, i.e. iOS, macOS, Android and Windows, including smartphones, tablets, PCs and Mac computers. The technology promises to provide wireless transmission of a digital PCM signal with parameters up to 24 bit / 96 without compression. This is more than Bluetooth can currently offer.
LTTP technology is a plug-and-play technology. LTTP uses a proprietary adaptive bandwidth management protocol for audio data streams, which is designed to automatically adjust the sampling frequency and bit rate to match the source files without the need for sample rate conversion. LTTP is designed to use the effective bandwidth to its full extent to provide a maximum transfer rate of up to 1.5 Mbps.
Support for the LTTP wireless interface in terms of receiving corresponding audio streams from the transmitter is currently only implemented in Lotto products. The brand has announced that it will integrate this technology into all its future products.
For the average consumer in Europe, and even for professionals, little will change for now. The Lotoo brand is not a major player in Europe. But the very fact that there are companies trying to develop a technology for wireless, lossless transmission of high-resolution audio, and not as a crutch to the current reigning Bluetooth, is interesting. And if Lotto succeeds, then one day LTTP may well become an industry standard, just as Bluetooth is today.
